What is a Slingbox Pro?

The Slingbox Pro is produced by Sling Media The current version is the 2nd generation and sling media have now managed to pack everything for all their Slingboxes including the classic version into one simple user friendly device.  It is the perfect companion for any home theater system and allows you to watch and control up to three standard definitions and one high definition video device anywhere you go.  By either using an internet connected computer or mobile device you are able to watch and control your home TV, DVR as well as basic cable, digital cable box or satellite receiver from either around town or around the globe.  So with the Slingbox Pro installed in your home you will never be separated from all your favorite TV Shows, Sports Broadcasts as well as breaking news stories.  You can also control your digital video recordings or video on demand without actually having to be in your home to deal with it.

It is very much like the classic Slingbox but also features an analog cable input as well as an S-video input which the previous Slingbox does not have.  The cost of the Slingbox Pro is from between $200 and $250 but in order to use the high definition (HD) on it you will need to purchase a dongle which costs a further $50.  In fact you could say that the Slingbox Pro is the same as the current Slingbox but it happens to have been put on steroids whilst it was being developed.  

However, it is larger than the original version and it comes now in red with a semi-translucent plastic shell and because of its size it can be a little more difficult to hide compare to other versions.  The additional benefits of having a Slingbox Pro compared to the older versions is that not only is it HD component video compatible also long as you use the Slingbox HD connect cable.  But not only this it allows you now to watch your home TV virtually anywhere as well as any cable subscriptions, special programming or sports packages that you may have on your system at home at no additional cost to you.

So if you are looking for a way to enhance your viewing capabilities for your home theatre system then the purchasing of a Slingbox Pro may be the right choice for you.  It is especially good if you are looking for a system that gives you just as much control as any of the special programming or component devices (such as TiVo) which are on the market as you do at home.
